MMMR
Description
MMMR is a math game with a clear educational mission: teaching kids and teenagers how to find the mean, median, mode and range of a set of numbers. Those four ideas are the backbone of basic statistics, and this game turns practicing them from a worksheet chore into something closer to a quick-fire challenge. It works equally well as a learning tool at home or as a classroom warm-up.
The gameplay is straightforward. You are presented with a set of numbers and asked to work out one of the four measures: the mean, which is the average; the median, the middle value once the numbers are in order; the mode, the number that appears most often; and the range, the gap between the biggest and smallest values. You select or type your answer using simple clicks or taps, so the interface never gets in the way of the thinking.
Because the concept stays the same while the number sets keep changing, the game builds fluency through repetition. Early sets are small and friendly, and as you improve the lists grow longer and the numbers less tidy, which is exactly the kind of gradual ramp that makes a skill stick. Each correct answer reinforces the method, and each mistake is a chance to figure out which step went wrong.
A few habits make these questions much easier. For the median, always sort the set first, and remember that with an even count of numbers you average the two middle ones. For the mode, scan for repeats before assuming there is none. The range is a quick subtraction of smallest from largest, and for the mean, adding the numbers in pairs keeps the mental arithmetic manageable. Keeping those four little routines straight is the whole game, and MMMR gives you plenty of chances to practice them.
This one is ideal for students brushing up on statistics basics, parents who want a productive screen-time option, and teachers hunting for a no-prep activity. It runs in the browser for free, on school computers and home tablets alike.
