Description
MonsterJong takes the classic mahjong solitaire formula and gives it a spooky makeover. Instead of traditional bamboo and dragon tiles, the board is stacked with pieces showing all kinds of horrible little monsters, and your mission is to clear every single one by matching them in pairs. The pyramid layout means only part of the board is available at any moment, which turns a simple matching idea into a genuine thinking game.
The rules are easy to pick up. You can only select tiles that sit on the open ends of the stack, meaning a piece is blocked if another tile covers it or pins it from the side. Find two identical monster faces among the free tiles, click or tap them one after the other, and they vanish from the board. Clear the whole pyramid and you win; run out of available pairs and you will wish you had removed things in a different order.
What makes the game tense is that every removal changes what is playable next. Early boards give you plenty of open ends to work with, but as the pyramid shrinks, the remaining monsters get buried deeper and the margin for error disappears. Later layouts stack the pieces higher and ask you to think several moves ahead instead of grabbing the first obvious pair.
The single most useful habit is to prioritize moves that unlock the most new tiles. If two possible pairs are on the table, take the one that frees a buried piece or opens a long blocked row. It also pays to scan the whole board before each move, because a matching monster you need later might currently be trapped under the one you are about to clear.
Fans of mahjong solitaire, memory-style matching, and Halloween-flavored puzzle games will feel right at home here. It is calm on the surface and quietly ruthless underneath.
