Planet Hop
Description
Planet Hop boils the endless runner down to its purest form: you are sprinting around the surface of a tiny planet, a red triangle is coming, and the only thing standing between you and a new record is a single well-timed jump. One tap is the whole control scheme, and that is exactly why it works.
Your character runs on its own, looping around the planet endlessly, and your only job is to jump. Each red triangle that rolls into view must be cleared with a hop, and clipping one ends the run instantly. There are no levels to finish and no finish line at all; the game simply asks you to resist as long as you can and set the best record possible, then dares you to beat it.
The challenge creeps up on you. Early in a run the triangles arrive at a polite pace and jumping feels almost lazy, but the longer you survive the faster everything moves and the less recovery time you get between obstacles. Because you are running around a planet, the curve of the world constantly changes your view of what is coming next, which keeps your eyes working even when your fingers only have one job. Runs turn into a trance of rhythm and focus, and the trance is exactly when a triangle usually gets you.
The records come from rhythm rather than speed. Try to settle into a steady cadence of jumps instead of reacting individually to each triangle, because a calm, even rhythm survives the fast stretches far better than panicked tapping. Jump a touch earlier than feels necessary when the pace climbs, since late jumps are the ones that clip corners. And after a crash, start the next run immediately while your timing is still warm; rhythm games reward momentum between attempts as much as within them.
Planet Hop is made for everyone, literally anyone who can tap a screen, but it particularly rewards stubborn score chasers who treat a personal best as a personal insult. Simple, hyper casual, and quietly ruthless.
