Swampy Assault drops you into a classic redneck predicament: your beloved swamp shack is under siege, and the attackers are not people but waves of crocodiles, turtles, and just about every other creature the swamp can muster. Armed with your trusty shotgun, you stand your ground and blast anything that gets too close to home. It is a straightforward, rowdy defense shooter with a lot of personality.
Playing is simple to learn. The critters approach your shack from the water and the banks, and you aim with the mouse and click to fire, or tap targets on a touchscreen. Each enemy goes down after enough hits, but they keep coming, and letting too many of them reach the shack spells trouble. Reloading and picking your targets quickly becomes second nature after the first wave or two.
The game is built around a stack of challenging levels, and the pressure ramps up steadily. Early stages send a slow trickle of animals that let you find your aim, while later ones throw faster, tougher, and more numerous attackers at you, sometimes from several directions at once. Surviving the later levels takes sharp shooting and good judgment about which threat to handle first.
Prioritization is the real skill here. Always drop the enemies closest to the shack before picking off distant ones, and do not waste shells on a creature that is already halfway to leaving. Keep your aim near the waterline where new threats appear so you can react instantly, and stay calm when the screen gets crowded, because panicked shots rarely hit anything.
Fans of old-school arcade shooters and defense games will get the most out of this one. It is easy to pick up, tough to master, and delivers that satisfying loop of holding the line against overwhelming odds, one shotgun blast at a time.
